Doug Wakefield Biography
Accessibility Specialist
The U.S. Access Board

Mr. Wakefield began working with adaptive technology for people with disabilities when he started his own company in 1984. For 8 years Mr. Wakefield's company provided consultation and training services to individuals with disabilities in the private sector and also in the Federal workplace. The focus of these trainings and consultations was technology and how to make it work for the individual.

In 1992 Mr. Wakefield Joined the staff at the Center for IT Accommodation. In that position he provided consultation to Government agencies and individual Government employees.

At present Mr. Wakefield works for the Access Board where he is the lead staff person on the development of new functional and performance standards for information technology, to implement the requirements of the new 508 amendment to the Rehabilitation act. He also is the Board's telecommunications access specialist.
