K.
Dane Snowden was appointed Chief of the Federal Communication Commission's Consumer
Information Bureau (CIB) in June 2001. CIB, with approximately 200 employees in
Washington, DC, and Gettysburg, PA, gathers and disseminates information on telecommunications
issues to consumers and to state and Federal governmental agencies.
Under
Mr. Snowden's leadership, CIB is working to encourage cooperation among the "three
Cs" - the Commission, companies and consumers - to achieve consumer satisfaction
with telecommunications products and services. CIB is establishing strategic alliances
among these three groups that will result in benefits to all consumers. CIB is
responsible for handling public inquiries and consumer complaints, tracking trends,
and acting as an "early warning system" to advise the Commissioners and other
bureaus of consumers' concerns.
Before
coming to the FCC, Mr. Snowden was Vice President of MissionFish.com, an Internet
auction engine that raises funding for nonprofit groups by auctioning donated
goods.
Prior
to that he was a Vice President with America's Promise - The Alliance for Youth.
In this role, he developed strategic alliances with Fortune 1000 and privately
held companies, national nonprofit, and faith-based organizations.
He
has also been Corporate Development Director with The United Negro College Fund;
Assistant Director of Development and Director of Alumni Affairs with Episcopal
High School in Alexandria, VA; and a Sales Associate with Sony Corporation of
America.
Mr.
Snowden received a B.A. in political science from The College of William and Mary,
Williamsburg, VA, and lives in Washington, DC.
