Safety Implications of Fisheries Management
Many fisheries management policies are crafted with the intent of responsible stewardship of a natural resource. These policies can have effects on the safety of fishermen, both positive and negative. This talk will cover recent examples of some fisheries management policies and their effect on the fishing fleets. Using data from APRO’s surveillance system, this presentation should help foster some interesting discussion between fishery managers and industry representatives and help dispel some of the myths and misconceptions around such topics as crab rationalization.

Survival Psychology
Although it is impossible to always foresee how one will react in an emergency, there are predictable patterns and stages to peoples' responses to emergencies. If these patterns are recognized, responders can appropriately temper their actions toward victims and ease recovery for survivors. This presentation will review typical responses to emergency situations, illustrated them with anecdotes from the maritime world.

Marine Weather Self Reliance
Lee Chesneau, Senior Marine Meteorologist, formerly with the National Weather Service's (NWS) Ocean Prediction Center (OPC), and now with Lee Chesneau's Marine Weather, will provide an overview of his program for self reliance in understanding marine weather facsimile charts and predicting marine weather. His 35 years of forecasting the weather for mariners and routing vessels of all types and missions, has been now transferred to the classroom where he will take you step by step toward understanding both the ocean and atmospheric environment you boat in. This is necessary and important for not only in determining your own weather forecasts, but making strategic decisions whether operating within the coastal waters, offshore, or in trans-ocean crossings. Do not miss this one!
