Arthur Hamerschlag Arthur S. (Art) Hamerschlag MPA joined LMI in April of 2007. Mr. Hamerschlag currently heads the Health Care Policy Practice at LMI, a not for profit strategic consultancy. Prior to LMI, he had 16 years of executive experience with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the largest integrated healthcare system in the United States, and the acknowledged leader in health care quality, patient satisfaction, health informatics, and patient safety. From 2004 to 2007, Mr. Hamerschlag served as Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary. In that capacity he provided oversight to the immediate Office of the Under Secretary, and served as a key advisor on policy, budget, personnel, organizational and communications issues. Mr. Hamerschlag also served as Deputy Chief Financial Officer for VHA, and as Director of the Medical Care Cost Recovery office, where he was responsible for first and third party billing and collections. Art was hired by the Department of Veterans Affairs in 1970, and held a series of increasingly responsible positions before joining VHA. Art received his undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
