About the Salute to Congress Dinner
In 1985, an annual Salute to Congress dinner was established by The Propeller Club of the United States to honor a member of Congress who demonstrated leadership in furthering the cause of the American merchant marine and allied industries.

This Salute affords an opportunity for all segments of the maritime industry to get together at one forum with not only their own Senators and Congresspersons but members of Congress from all over the country to discuss problems and suggest remedies for our survival and future growth. Each year in November, a different member of Congress is selected to receive this award by a special committee of The Propeller Club of the United States in Washington, D.C.

The Salute, held in the Spring, has been a huge success and has been sold out each year. The dinner is truly a first class function and each club should strive to participate either by having at least one member in attendance or by supporting the effort through a donation. All supporting clubs, companies and individual donors are recognized in the printed program.

Ideally, the Salute to Congress dinner, which is usually held on Tuesday, offers attendees an opportunity to arrive early on Saturday to enjoy less expensive airfares, tour a beautiful city and its many points of interest and by prior arrangement, visit their Senators or Congresspersons on Monday and Tuesday before the dinner.

For out of town attendees, hotel information will be presented at a later date.

Attendees are reminded this is an opportune time to visit members of Congress. Headquarters will be happy to try to assist in making appointments.
