Chantilly, VA - TV Worldwide, a web-based global TV network, announced that it had been selected to webcast a state-of-the-art LASIK laser vision correction procedure on Houston anchorwoman Linda Lorelle of NBC-affiliate KPRC-TV. Charles Moore M.D., a leader in the refractive field, will perform the procedure in Houston's widely-acclaimed International Eyecare Laser Center featuring the use of the New WaveLight ALLEGRETTO WAVET Excimer Laser. Ms. Lorelle's husband, Mr. Louis Gregory will also undergo the procedure.

"We are eager to have Ms. Lorelle and her husband Lou experience the phenomenal results we've been able to achieve with the Allegretto Wave Excimer Laser while viewers participate on line, "remarked Dr. Moore. "This is the only vision correction laser to be cleared by the FDA in nearly five years. As the newest generation LASIK technology, it has demonstrated an exceptional level of safety and patient satisfaction. Since adopting this state-of-the-art laser, more than 96% of my patients have achieved 20/20 or better vision. Even more impressive are the improvements in vision quality reported by an overwhelming number of my patients such as higher contrast sensitivity, reduction in glare, 'halos' and other night vision problems which are often present in those that have undergone refractive surgery.

"My husband and I are extremely excited about having the procedure performed and participating in the webcast," commented Ms. Lorelle. "We've been waiting for the technology to get to a point where we feel comfortable enough to have the surgery.  Now that we've made the decision, Lou and I are eagerly anticipating the day when we'll be able to see without our reading glasses."

"We are grateful to Ms. Lorelle, her husband Lou, Dr. Moore and the International EyeCare Laser Center for allowing us to provide a live webcast of this procedure for viewers everywhere," stated Dave Gardy, Chairman and CEO of TV Worldwide. "Dr. Moore was instrumental in introducing this technology to physicians around the world through the successful Allegretto FDA clinical trials; he also became the 1st surgeon in the U.S. to perform LASIK with the Allegretto after FDA approval. Since then, the remarkable demonstrated results from this procedure have generated intense interest among many considering the surgery and we're provisioning our servers for a huge audience."

The free streaming video event will offer the latest in interactive webcast technology to participants from the press, the general public, and ophthalmology professionals, worldwide. Visitors to the webcast will be able to post questions and participate in Q&A via e-mail, providing a fully interactive forum for sharing of information.

The webcast event will be available live and archived for later viewing at www.tvworldwide.com and www.TexasLasik.com. Participants should have the free Windows Media Player installed prior to the event and should log on at any time prior to 3:00 PM ET on March 4th to test their set up in preparation for the start of the webcast at 4:00 PM ET. Questions can be directed to 703-961-9250, ext 223 before and during the event.

About Linda Lorelle

Linda Lorelle helps save lives. No one, not even she, knew the impact that her Emmy-nominated breast cancer series or her Emmy Award-winning, first-person account on local news anchor Sydney Seaward's battle with cancer would have on Houston women. But many were touched by KPRC's "Buddy Check 2: Beating the Breast Cancer Odds" and "Sydney's Story."

For Linda, it doesn't get any better than that.

Her knack for helping the community spills over into her storytelling abilities, but that ability doesn't come without practice. She grew up in Chicago and traveled west to attend Stanford, where she received a B.A. in developmental psychology and Italian language. Upon graduation, she enjoyed a successful career as a professional dancer and actress, traveling throughout the United States and Europe. She went back to school and obtained her M.A. in broadcast journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

She began honing her journalistic skills as a reporter for KBIA-FM radio and a weekend anchor for KOMU-TV, the top-rated NBC affiliate in Columbia, Mo., while still in school.

Upon graduation, she started her career with the CBS affiliate, KMOV-TV in St. Louis, as a general assignment reporter.

In 1989, she joined the KPRC team, where she anchored the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts for 14 years. After moving to a more family-friendly schedule in August of 2003, she currently anchors the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts and Dateline Houston. Linda also spearheads the station's documentary projects and hosts several special programs, including the Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethon and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Telethon.

Linda's annual Scholarship Fund Gala awarded more than $1.2 million in college scholarships to Houston-area students.

In addition to the aforementioned Emmy, Linda has been honored by many local, regional and national organizations and has been the recipient of numerous honors, including:

  • 2004 Emmy Award, "Beyond Brown vs. Board: The Journey Continues"
  • 2004 AWRT Gracie Award, Individual Achievement-Best Reporter/Correspondent for 3-part series, "Goodbye Felicia Moon"
  • 2004 AWRT Star Award, Best Houston Television Personality
  • 2002 Macy's Heart and Soul Award honoring excellence in the fight against breast cancer
  • 2002 Chron's & Colitis Gold Key Award, recognizing Linda as an Exceptional Woman in the Houston community
  • 2000 Anson Jones, M.D. Award for "Sydney's Story," a first-person account of Linda's experience covering the breast cancer battle of local anchor Sydney Seaward which appeared in Health and Fitness Magazine
  • 2000 Texas Associate Press Award for "She Got Game," a one-on-one interview with WNBA star Cynthia Cooper
  • 1997 Houston Press Club Award for "Sydney's Story"
  • 1995 Commendation Award from the American Women in Radio and Television for "Buddy Check 2: Beating the Breast Cancer Odds"
  • 1994 Makeda Award from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women
  • 1993 Matrix Award from Women in Communications for her series "Mae's Dream," documenting the shuttle launch of the first black woman astronaut
  • 1992 Sampson Award from the Houston Tennis Association for outstanding contributions to the community
  • 1992 Media Award from the Texas Association for Year-Round Education
  • 1990 and 1991 School Bell Award from the Texas State Teachers Association for "They Should Know That, Too"

She is involved in community activities through board memberships such as the Sydney Seaward Endowment, Sisters Network -- a national organization of African-American breast cancer survivors -- the Society of Professional Journalists, the San Jacinto Girl Scouts, The Women's Resource of Greater Houston, the Houston Zoo, Casa de Esperanza, Advisory Boards of the Junior League and the Children's Assessment Center Foundation, and Selection Committee Chair for the 2002 Jaworski Award.

In her spare time, Linda likes to be with her husband, Lou, and their spirited daughter, Lindsey.

She is an avid tennis player and figure skater, a music enthusiast and a collector of local art. She is proficient in Italian and French.

About ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer laser

One of the most common complaints following LASIK is poor night vision, including side effects such as glare or the 'halo' effect that often occurs while driving. Designed and engineered in Germany, the Allegretto Wave system is the first new excimer laser to receive approval in the United States since 1999. It is the fastest laser system in the United States today and the only laser system to have received concurrent approvals for nearsightedness and farsightedness with astigmatism and clearance for the widest treatment range ever initially granted to a new laser.

While all conventional LASIK systems are designed to correct refractive errors, the laser's proprietary PerfectPulse TechnologyTM helps to minimize post-operative glare and night vision issues by incorporating wavefront principles directly into every LASIK treatment. The principle behind PerfectPulse Technology is to maintain the natural corneal shape and curvature which is unique to each patient. The result is a more accurate laser treatment across the entire cornea, particularly on the periphery of the cornea which is critical to the patient's night vision quality.

The Allegretto Wave, manufactured by WaveLight Laser Technologie AG, was the first refractive laser to receive concurrent FDA approvals for the treatment of myopia up to -12 diopters with astigmatism of up to -6 diopters, and hyperopia up to +6 diopters with astigmatism of up to +5 diopters. For patient information published by the FDA about the Allegretto Wave for myopia and hyperopia, visit  www.fda.edu or www.allegrettowave.com.

WaveLight also supports charitable causes and is a major sponsor to Vision for the World, a charity organization that fights against blindness in third world countries.
