TVWorldwide.com,
Inc., a fast-growing web-based global TV network,
has been selected by the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial
Fund to simulcast via satellite and the web, a live program
highlighting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Fifth Annual
"In Memeory" Day . Base Technologies,
Inc., is making the simulcast available through
their generous premium sponsorship.
Nearly 400 American heroes will be honored posthumously
this month during a ceremony to pay tribute to the men and
women who died prematurely because of non-combat injuries
and emotional suffering caused directly by the Vietnam War
but who are not eligible for inscription on the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial, announced Jan C. Scruggs, founder and
president, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
The
Fifth Annual In Memory Day Ceremony will be held on Monday,
April 21, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Memorial in Washington,
D.C. More than 1,000 family members, friends and
fellow veterans will be visiting the nation's capital to
participate in this year's event, sponsored by the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial Fund.
“The
In Memory program serves to honor the thousands of service
members and civilians who died as a result of the war, but
who are not eligible to have their names inscribed on The
Wall,” Scruggs said. “The annual ceremony brings
together families and friends who have sustained similar
tragedies, allowing them to share stories and to start the
process of healing.”
Lt.
Gen. John S. Caldwell, Jr., Military Deputy to the Assistant
Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology,
will serve as one of the event's speakers. He graduated
from the United States Military Academy at West Point in
1967 and served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in
Vietnam. In addition, Earl Hockaday of Arlington, Virginia,
brother of 2002 Honoree Glenn Hockaday, will provide remarks
and U.S. Navy veteran Chuck Price of Austin, Colorado will
perform "The Unsung Heroes" - a song about honoring
and remembering Vietnam veterans.
About
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s In Memory program
The
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s In Memory program
honors those who died as a result of the Vietnam War, but
whose deaths do not fit the Department of Defense criteria
for inclusion upon the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington,
D.C.
Every
year there is a ceremony to pay tribute to these men and
women who sacrificed so much for their country. The ceremony
is held on the third Monday in April – In Memory Day.
During
the In Memory Day ceremony, the names of all the honorees
are read aloud. At the conclusion of the ceremony, certificates
bearing the honorees’ names are placed at the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial. The tributes are collected by the National
Park Service and stored in their permanent archive. In addition,
the honorees are included in an In Memory Honor Roll Book
to serve as a lasting reminder of their service and sacrifices.
