Highlights include Luncheon Speakers from the newly
formed Department of Homeland Security and the Port
of San Diego, a Dinner Presentation from the Maritime
Administrator, and a discussion Panel on Best Practices
for Ships in U.S. Ports.
The Ship Operations Cooperative Program (SOCP) invites
all maritime industry representatives to attend and
participate in the SOCP's March 5-6, 2003, meeting in
San Diego, CA.

SOCP at its public meeting at the Point Loma Navy Submarine
Base in San Diego, CA. On March 5, 2003 the meeting
will open with welcoming remarks from the MSC Commander
of the Pacific Fleet. Hear a senior level representative
from the newly formed Department of Homeland Security
provide insight into this critical department’s evolution
and future direction. The agenda will also include discussion
panels on Best Security Practices for Ships in U.S.
Ports and Innovative Maritime Technologies. The day
will culminate with a tour of the NASSCO ship yard and
a dinner presentation from Captain William Schubert,
Maritime Administrator, who will discuss the affect
on the Maritime Administration/DOT’s mission as a result
of USCG and TSA transferring to the Department of Homeland
Security and the future role MARAD will play in maritime
security.
On
March 6, 2003 several reports will be presented on industry
issues and activities, along with a technology presentation.
The invited luncheon speaker from the Port of San Diego,
CA, will provide an overview of port activities and
review steps that are being implemented to enhance security.
