TV Worldwide.com, a fast-growing global Internet broadcaster and streaming
media service provider, announced that it would team with the International
Webcasting Association (IWA) and nationally-renowned recording artists
to produce a global concert webcast to benefit The IWA's campaign
to save the Internet radio industry as the federal government debates
a recent controversial decision on royalty rates for Internet radio
webcasters. The Gerry Beaudoin Trio with Jay Geils,
formerly of the J.Geils band will headline the jazz/blues show that
will open with performances from Signorello and The
Mike O'Meara Blues Band featuring Mike O'Meara of the nationally
syndicated "Don and Mike" radio show beginning at 7:30 PM EDT on July
22. The event will be webcast live to TVWorldwide.com from the State
Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia near Washington, D.C. and the link
will be provided for simulcast transmission via Internet radio stations
around the country.
"We're pleased to work with Internet radio webcasters and recording
artists to assist the IWA's campaign with this event," stated Dave
Gardy, Chairman and CEO of TVWorldwide.com. "We're getting a huge
response to this event from those interested in saving Internet radio
nationally and the artists has been very responsive in working with
us to facilitate the webcast. We look forward to once again working
with the IWA as they practice what they preach in utilizing webcasts
to serve their membership."
The event is being held in response to the growing effort to assist
Internet Radio webcasters who are being forced out of business after
a decision from the Librarian of Congress regarding royalty rates
paid to performers. These performer royalties, which are not paid
by conventional radio stations for terrestrial broadcasts, are based
on a per-listener structure rather than percent-of revenue basis,
resulting in royalties far in excess of the total revenue some Internet
radio sites generate. The onerous nature of these rates and their
retroactive enforcement are causing many Internet-only radio stations
to go dark.
"Webcasters recognize there is a cost to do business. What they cannot
accept is a fee that restricts their ability to stay in business,"
commented Susan Pickering, Executive Director of the IWA. "Without
a percentage of revenue structure, there is a barrier to entry for
all but the largest webcasters. Webcasters provide an outlet for new
artists and their music, and a source for listeners who are looking
for audio entertainment not available on terrestrial radio. We are
grateful for the contribution being made by all who are supporting
this event and stand by our members' efforts to bring to public attention
the outrageous rates proposed by the CARP, renewing efforts to reach
an equitable solution, whether it is through negotiation or legislative
relief," said Susan Pickering, Executive Director of the IWA.
Webcasting concerts to an Internet audience is nothing new to TV Worldwide.com.
Its corporate advisory board includes Jay Geils who has teamed with
TV Worldwide to webcast jazz concerts including the Internet's first
interactive 360-degree panoramic concert webcast. TVWorldwide.com
was also selected to webcast this year's Coca-Cola's DC Sessions Concert
series in Washington, D.C. and Vanilla Coke's On the Bricks concert
series in Atlanta.
The Save Internet Radio Concert Webcast event will be available live
and archived for later viewing at www.webcasters.org,
www.tvworldwide.com and through
Internet radio stations nationwide, to be named shortly. Participants
should have the free Real Player installed and should log on 15 minutes
prior to the event at 7:30PM EDT on July 22. Questions can be directed
to 703-961-9250, ext 223 before and during the event.
