Forum
members will be meeting at the June 2002 meeting in Washington,
DC, to discuss current developments and direction regarding
implementation of accessible electronic and information technology
under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. The program includes
guest speakers, panel sessions, and updates on Forum activities
and events.
The Accessibility Forum is dedicated to being the major voice
for long-term solutions in fulfilling the promise of Section
508. The Forum is the only setting where all of the relevant
Section 508 stakeholder groups are assembling. Forum members
are working toward a common understanding of the accessibility
standard and how best to implement that standard to the benefit
of all stakeholder groups. On-going discussion and collaboration
among its members result in the initiation and completion
of projects designed to provide specific direction toward
successful understanding and implementation of Section 508.
The June Forum is a continuation of that ongoing effort.
Panel sessions include how both non-federal segments and federal
agencies are responding to Section 508, and on 508 and the
Web. Each discussion will include time for Q&A. There will
also be a presentation on Microsoft accessibility efforts
and the economic challenges faced by industry.
By tuning into the web cast, viewers will be able to stay
apprised of Forum activity and provide input on Forum issues
and direction of effort and resources. A process will be set
up for web cast viewers to send their questions and comments
to the Forum during the discussion panel Q&A sessions.
